Bicylist Dies After Collision

A bicyclist injured last week when he was struck by a driver in Sterling died Saturday at Inova Fairfax Hospital, the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office said.

Jose Santos Montoya Henriquez, 21, of Herndon became the third person in two weeks killed in the county in a collision involving a bicycle and a vehicle. Henriquez was riding on Oakgrove Road shortly after 6 a.m. Sept. 8 when his bike was hit by a box truck turning into a business complex, the sheriff's office said. No charges were filed against the driver.

On Aug. 24, a man riding his mountain bike was struck by a vehicle and fatally injured when he rode from the Washington & Old Dominion trail into Route 704. Two days later, an Ashburn teenager riding his mountain bike on the trail was killed after he went through a stop sign at Ivandale Road and hit the side of a commercial truck.

Embezzlement Sentence

A Leesburg man was sentenced Friday to one year in jail and ordered to pay more than $56,000 in restitution for embezzling money from a local business.

Sean Patrick Painter, 29, pleaded guilty earlier this year to eight felony charges. Loudoun Circuit Judge Thomas Horne handed down the sentence.

Painter, who was an estimator for Long Fence, told customers that he would give them a price break if they paid him directly, investigators for the Loudoun County Sheriff's Office found. Painter then cashed customers' checks without turning in a contract.

After learning of the matter, Long Fence honored all of the customer contracts.
