A Charles County man accused by police of weapons violations now faces drug and child pornography charges.

In an indictment unsealed this week in Charles County Circuit Court, Lawrence R. Fox, 23, was charged with manufacturing methamphetamine at his La Plata home.

A separate two-count federal indictment, returned Aug. 29 and since unsealed, charged Fox with receiving computer files containing child pornography in May 2003 and having them on his computer this July 19, the day police raided the house he shares with his mother.

St. Mary's County has charged Fox with two counts of carrying a handgun in his car. Fox told the District Court at the beginning of August that he had licenses for the weapons and that they were "inert replicas purchased at a gun show."

"They are not at all prohibited," he said.

Fox was arrested July 19 outside Belk Department Store in Wildewood after co-workers at the store reported that he had a gun on the store's premises, according to charging papers in District Court.

Later that day, authorities raided his house in La Plata and found what they described as a cache of weapons, explosives and a drug lab.

Fox has not been charged in connection with the rifles, handguns, armor-piercing bullets and grenades found in his home.

He is being held at the St. Mary's Detention Center, where he turned down a request for an interview.
