Cancer Survivors Event
Anne Arundel Medical Center's Geaton and JoAnn DeCesaris Cancer Institute is holding its third annual Breast Cancer Survivors Retreat on Oct. 15 and 16 at the Marriott Aspen Wye River Conference Center, 201 Wye Woods Way, Queenstown. The retreat will focus on healing after treatment. Participants will have the opportunity to bond with other survivors and learn about new developments in therapy, including yoga and tai chi. Boatyard Ball Fundraiser
The Taste of the Chesapeake 2005 Boatyard Ball to benefit the Alliance for the Chesapeake Bay will take place from 4:30 to 10 p.m. Saturday at Port Annapolis Arena, 7074 Bembe Beach Rd., Annapolis. The 10th annual gala fundraiser will feature local delicacies, live music and exhibits on clean bay practices. Grants for Nonprofits
The Carl M. Freeman Foundation is offering grant money to nonprofit organizations serving Anne Arundel County through the Freeman Foundation Assists Communities with Extra Support (FACES) program. Organizations may apply for grants of $500 to $2,000. Guidelines and the application are available on the foundation's Web site at www.freemanfoundation.org. Bay Photo Contest
The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is accepting amateur and professional photographs for its Save the Bay photo contest. Photographs should illustrate the positive or negative aspects of the bay, its rivers and streams from Pennsylvania to Virginia. Images of people, wildlife, recreation, farms, industries and pollution within the watershed region will be considered. Each week, Internet users can vote for their favorite selections on the Chesapeake Bay Foundation Web site. Submissions will be accepted online or by mail until Oct. 31.
