Salon Celebrates in Hyattsville

Runway Studios, a salon and boutique, plans a grand opening celebration from 6 to 10 p.m. on Saturday at 5106 Baltimore Ave. in Hyattsville.

Hospital Opens Diabetes Center

Earlier this month, Doctors Community Hospital opened the Joslin Diabetes Center at its main campus in Lanham.

The center is offering diabetes education, diagnosis, treatment and support services, including diet and nutrition education and an exercise specialist. Bowie resident Karl B. Finley is the medical director.

The Joslin diabetes program is a division of Harvard Medical School in Boston.

A Departure at Giant

Odonna Mathews, Giant Food's longtime consumer adviser, is retiring from the company effective Sept. 30.

Mathews, 55, has been with Giant for 33 years. Andrea Astrachan, a member of the grocer's consumer affairs staff, will succeed Mathews. Astrachan is a graduate of Howard University Law School and worked at Giant while attending school. Mathews will continue to provide some advice on consumer issues to Giant after her retirement.

Two Named at WSSC

The Washington Suburban Sanitary Commission has selected Joseph W. Zorica to serve as its chief engineer and Goutam Kundu to serve as chief information officer.

Zorica has worked in capital improvement and facilities/utilities operation and maintenance programs for over 20 years. He comes from Jacobs Facilities Inc. of Arlington, where he managed engineering and construction programs in the District.

Kundu worked at the Farm Insurance Bureau as director of technology/chief technology officer before joining WSSC.
