The Montgomery County Victim Assistance and Sexual Assault Program seeks volunteers to provide counseling and companionship to victims of rape and sexual assault. Volunteers must have a driver's license and access to transportation and must make a 12-month commitment. A 40-hour training program is provided over four weeks. The Responding to the Call to Serve Program (RSVP) seeks volunteers older than 50 to work with students in the classrooms. Tutors, readers, teaching assistants, mentors and others are needed. Friends of Sligo Creek needs volunteers to clean up litter from the creek at its annual Sweep the Creek event from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday. Services for the Visually Impaired seeks volunteers with retail experience to serve as sales associates to assist blind and visually impaired people at the White Cane Center in Silver Spring. Upcounty SHARP, a local program that serves students suspended from Northwest, Quince Orchard, Seneca Valley and Watkins Mill high schools, seeks volunteers to serve as tutors, mentors and administrative support staff members. Pain Connection-Chronic Pain Outreach Center seeks people with experience in fundraising, governance, public relations and program development to serve on its board of directors. The board meets four or five times a year. Members serve a two-year term. For more information, call 301-309-2444.

Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan is seeking applicants for the following vacancies:
The Agricultural Advisory Committee has seven vacancies; four must be filled by farmers and three by others. The farmer representatives serve three-year terms and the other members one-year terms without compensation. Meetings are held on the third Tuesday evening of each month in Germantown.
The Range Approval Committee has four vacancies. Members serve three-year terms without compensation. The committee meets as needed at the shooting ranges in the county and at the Police Administration Building in Rockville.
The Rustic Roads Advisory Committee has three vacancies. Members serve three-year terms without compensation. The committee meets at least six times a year on the second Thursday evening of each month.
The Solid Waste Advisory Committee has five vacancies. Members serve three-year terms without compensation and meet the first Tuesday evening of each month in Rockville.
The Facilities Implementation Group has two vacancies. Members serve three-year terms without compensation. Meetings are held at least quarterly at the Gothic Dairy Barn in Dickerson.
The Victim Services Advisory Board has six vacancies. Members serve three-year terms without compensation. The board meets the fourth Thursday evening of each month in Rockville.
