Sex Assault A 26-year-old Fairfax City woman was sexually assaulted Saturday night as she walked home from a nearby grocery store, Fairfax City police said yesterday.

The woman told police she was walking in the 3700 block of Jermantown Road after she left the store at Jermantown and Route 50. About 10 p.m., a man grabbed her, dragged her to a wooded area behind the Oxford Row townhouses and assaulted her, police said.

He fled when a passerby came upon the attack, officer Lynn Coulter said.

The assailant was described as a black man in his mid-twenties to early thirties, with a medium to heavy build, short hair and a mustache. He was about 6 feet tall and wore a black pullover sweater with a white T-shirt underneath, police said.

Home Intrusions Two Fairfax County women were awakened by intruders in their bedrooms early yesterday, but neither woman was hurt or robbed, and police do not think the incidents are related.

The first episode happened about 2:50 a.m. in the Fairfax Station area. A woman who lives on Jumet Court told police she awoke to find two men rifling her jewelry box. The woman said she spoke to the men, and they fled without taking anything, officer Bud Walker said.

A short time later and miles away, another woman discovered a man in her bedroom on Darkwood Circle in Centreville. The woman told police she screamed, and the man ran away about 3:30 a.m.
