Prince George's County police are investigating two killings in Temple Hills on Monday, including one that happened during school hours less than a block from Samuel Chase Elementary.

About 1:40 p.m., detectives discovered the body of a 29-year-old man in an apartment complex in the 5900 block of St. Moritz Drive, almost adjacent to the school, which ends its classes at 2:25 p.m.

Wallace Gaymon, who lived in the complex, was found with multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and was pronounced dead at the scene.

School spokesman John White said the staff is in daily contact with police to share information and try to keep school grounds secure. He said Samuel Chase has police crossing guards to look after the students as they leave the property.

"We exchange information with police so they can monitor those areas and help keep the kids safe as they come and go," White said.

Eight hours later, a 19-year-old man was found about 11/2 miles away with several gunshot wounds to his upper body. Donnell Patrick Butler, of the 6200 block of Joe Klutsch Drive, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said they do not have a motive or suspects in either case and are offering a reward of up to $25,000 for an arrest and indictment.

Anyone with information is asked to call the homicide unit at 301-772-4925.

Prince George's has had 127 homicides this year, compared with 108 in the same period last year.
