Dog Proves Elusive
TEMPLE HILLS, Joel Lane, 5500 block, Sept. 9. Animal control officers answered a call about a stray black dog that was reportedly spending time under a trailer in front of a house. They were unable to locate the animal.
Stray Pairs in Public Places
BOWIE, Mill Branch Pl., 17400 block, Sept. 10. Responding to a report of stray dogs running loose in a yard at a business, an animal control officer picked up a 2-year-old male mixed chow chow and a 2-year-old male Australian shepherd. Both dogs were being held at the shelter as strays.
LANHAM, Finns Lane, 7700 block, Sept. 10. A caller reported large stray dogs running loose in a convenience store parking lot. An animal control officer picked up two 2-year-old male Siberian huskies. Both dogs were being held at the shelter as strays.
Tenant Leaves Cats in Basement
BOWIE, Eugene's Prospect Dr., 12300 block, Sept. 10. After receiving a report about two cats left in a basement by a recently departed tenant, animal control retrieved a 5-year-old female longhair tiger cat and a 14-year-old neutered male. Both cats were being held at the shelter as strays.
Where the Wild Things Were
HYATTSVILLE, 41st Ave., 6100 block, Sept. 10. An animal control officer snared a bat that was flying around at a residence. It was taken to the shelter and euthanized.
RIVERDALE, 63rd Ave., 6100 block, Sept. 10. An animal control officer picked up an injured bat that had been caught at a residence and confined in a bag. It was euthanized at the shelter.
HYATTSVILLE, 43rd Ave., 5500 block, Sept. 10. An animal control officer picked up a raccoon caught in a trap at a residence. It was taken to the shelter and euthanized.
BOWIE, Golf Course Terr., 10800 block, Sept. 10. A skunk was caught in a trap for stray cats that had been set in the driveway of a residence. An animal control officer picked up the skunk and returned it to the wild.
MOUNT RAINIER, 33rd St., 4100 block, Sept. 10. An animal control officer removed an opossum that had gotten into the dining room of a residence. The animal was returned to the wild.
UPPER MARLBORO, Dumbarton Dr., 14600 block, Sept. 10. Responding to a call about an opossum caught in a backyard county trap, animal control retrieved the opossum but left the trap so that the resident could continue his efforts to rein in a groundhog.
