Retreat at Roosevelt

The 20th annual Comer Student Development Program Team Retreat and Family/Community Resource Day takes place from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Eleanor Roosevelt High School, 7601 Hanover Pkwy., Greenbelt.

James P. Comer, founder of the program, will attend. The event provides an opportunity for parents, teachers and community leaders to find out more about school reform resources. For more information, call 301-552-4294.

After-School Arts

The Greenbelt Recreation Department has started a series of after-school arts programs for elementary school-age children. Classes in photography, dance, fine arts, karate, crafting and more are available to students at Springhill Lake Elementary School, as well as at Greenbelt recreation centers. Jamison Speaks at DuVal

Washington Wizards forward Antawn Jamison spoke to a group of DuVal High School students about avoiding peer pressure, being successful and remaining focused, in a roundtable discussion last week The event was part of Jamison's own "Time-Out" discussion series, where he visits three area school districts to talk to students about leadership, sports and decision making. Jamison gave away two autographed sneakers and pairs of tickets to the Washington Wizards' first home game.

Dimensions Offers Aid

Dimensions Healthcare Systems is offering eligible applicants up to $4,000 in annual scholarship assistance and guaranteed future employment at one of its area hospitals. Recent Prince George's County high school graduates, students accepted to or currently enrolled in full-time associate or bachelor degree nursing programs and those who are U.S. citizens or legal residents are among those eligible to apply. Applicants must also be willing and able to work for a period of time at one of Dimensions' health facilities upon completion of degree and licensing programs. Some area Dimensions facilities include Prince George's Hospital Center, Laurel Regional Hospital, the Bowie Health Campus and Gladys Spellman Specialty Hospital and Nursing Center.
