Raiders Run It
Loudoun County got strong rushing performances from Billy Sweeney and Danny Slack, and kicker Kevin Hart had a pair of field goals to lead the Raiders to a 27-19 road victory over Heritage.
Sweeney ran for 186 yards and one touchdown on 34 carries, and Slack added 144 yards and one touchdown on 18 attempts. Hart kicked field goals of 25 and 26 yards in the third quarter.
Loudoun County (2-3) took a 7-0 lead in the first quarter when Sweeney scored on a two-yard run. Heritage answered with a seven-yard run from Chris Smith (49 yards on four carries), but the lead was short-lived as Slack scored on a one-yard run for a 14-6 advantage.
The Pride (3-2) cut it to 14-12 when Bobby Edmonds returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown in the second quarter, but quarterback Kevin Patterson scored on a five-yard run to give the Raiders a 21-12 lead.
Armenteros Leads Dominion
Dominion won its first game of the season, beating Wakefield, 28-21, on the road thanks to the late-game performance of running back Tony Armenteros and a defensive touchdown by defensive end Cam Everett.
Armenteros had touchdown runs of 68 and 12 yards to tie the game at 21, and he added a two-point conversion run in the fourth quarter after Everett returned a fumble 49 yards for the winning touchdown.
Armenteros finished with 138 yards rushing on 21 carries and caught three passes for 16 yards. Running back Edris Arnin added 105 yards on 18 carries for 1-3 Dominion.
No. 18 Liberty got two touchdowns and 189 yards rushing from running back Adrian Hull for a 28-0 victory over visiting Central-Woodstock.
Hull scored on a four-yard run in the second quarter and added a 30-yard score in the fourth to secure the win.
Liberty improved to 4-0 in winning its AA Northwestern District opener.
