Run to Raise County Funds

HeartSmart Foundation's 5K Run/Walk is scheduled for 10 a.m. Sunday at Kinder Farm Park, 1001 Kinder Farm Park Rd., Millersville. Proceeds from the race will allow Anne Arundel County to buy automated external defibrillators to install in public places throughout the county. County Executive Janet S. Owens will lead participants in warm-up exercises before the race. Registration will be from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m. and the race will begin at 10 a.m. The fee is $20 in advance and $25 on Sunday. Shop, Raffle for the Cure

The Sitting Pretty boutique's second annual "Dress for the Cure" will be held from 6 to 9 p.m. tomorrow at the store, 35 Maryland Ave. in Annapolis. Guests can purchase $10 raffle tickets for a chance to win a $500 shopping spree at Sitting Pretty. All proceeds from the raffle, and 10 percent of all sales during the day and evening, will be donated to the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. Cocktails and hors d'oeuvres will be served. AARP Driving Course

AARP will offer its Driver Safety Program from 9:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. Oct. 17 and 18 at the Baltimore Washington Medical Center's Dr. Constantine Padussis Conference Center. The course is intended to help people 50 and older improve their driving skills and avoid traffic accidents. Participants can learn defensive-driving techniques, safe use of cell phones and how to deal with aggressive drivers. The fee is $10. Pre-registration is required. Grants for Nonprofit Groups

Nonprofit organizations in Anne Arundel County whose volunteer activities either focus on mentoring or help to support families can apply for community assistance donations through the Junior League of Annapolis. A total of $4,000 in grant money will be distributed. Applications are available at the Junior League offices, 134 Holiday Court, Parole Professional Center, Suite 306, Annapolis. Art for Cancer Awareness

County residents have until Monday to enter a bra in the Cup of the Month Challenge, sponsored by the Anne Arundel County Department of Health and the Annapolis Quilt Guild. Bras will be judged as works of art and should be decorated in honor of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, observed annually in October.
