American Red Cross needs volunteers to assist at blood drives and donor centers. Volunteers must be 14 or older and commit to work at two or more blood drives a month. Responsibilities include greeting donors and providing them with reading materials, serving refreshments and observing donors after they give blood. Training is provided. Jewish Social Service Agency of Metropolitan Washington needs adult volunteers for two of its nonsectarian programs that help patients with a life-threatening or terminal illness and their families. Lake Accotink Park needs volunteers to help clean up trails, the lake, creeks and woodlands on "Make a Difference Day," from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Oct. 22 rain or shine.
