Working With Airports

Representatives of disadvantaged and minority- and women-owned businesses are invited to attend a seminar Nov. 9 on working with Dulles and Reagan National airports. Organized by the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, the seminar will give tips to small companies specializing in construction, goods and concessions. Contractors will discuss how businesses can qualify to work with their firms.

The session will run from 1 to 5:30 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Crystal City, 2799 Jefferson Davis Hwy., Arlington. Registration is from 11:30 a.m. to 12:45 p.m. Call 703-417-8625 or visit for information.

Shuttle to Ocean City

Simmons Air launched a $90 round-trip shuttle service last month between Baltimore-Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport and Ocean City. Each of its Cessna 404 and 404C planes seats nine passengers. Flights, which take 35 minutes, depart three times daily from the General Aviation Terminal.

2 Florida Flights to Be Cut

Due to low passenger demand, Delta Air Lines announced that on Dec. 1 it will end its two daily flights from Dulles International Airport to Melbourne International Airport in Florida.

Baltimore to Mexico City

Mexicana, Mexico's largest airline, will begin daily nonstop flights from BWI to Mexico City in December. A discounted fare -- $319 round trip -- will be available through this month.

New CFO for Flyi

Flyi Inc., the parent company of Dulles-based Independence Air, has named David W. Asai as chief financial officer, replacing Richard J. Surratt, who resigned. Asai had been the company's controller. Independence Air announced last month that it will lay off 600 workers and discontinue service to the West Coast to stave off bankruptcy.

New Pizza Stores

Villa Pizza has opened stores at Dulles and BWI. At BWI, the restaurant is in the new Concourse A; other locations are to be opened in the Main Terminal and in Concourse B. At Dulles, it is in the newly renovated Concourse B; a location is to be added in Concourse D.
