St. Mary's Oyster Festival

Oyster season begins with the annual St. Mary's County Oyster Festival. The festival has two national championship contests: the National Oyster Shucking Championship, in which contestants are judged on time and presentation of 24 shucked oysters; and the National Oyster Cook-Off, in which finalists vie for a $1,000 top prize in a timed competition.

There also will be carnival games for children, music and seafood. The festival runs from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at the St. Mary's County Fairgrounds, Route 5, Leonardtown. $5 admission; free for ages 11 and younger. Parking is free. 410-526-1175.

ABBA Throwback

Bjorn Again, a group that has performed more than 3,000 shows in 60 countries, covers the music and recaptures the spectacle of the Swedish pop music quartet ABBA at 4 p.m. Sunday at the Mary Harrison Cultural Arts Center, 2950 Chaneyville Rd., Owings. $20 for adults; $15 for students and seniors. 410-535-0291 or 301-855-1862.

'Friday Nite Fights'

Boxing manager Angelo Dundee, who coached 15 world champions including Muhammad Ali and Sugar Ray Leonard, will make a special appearance at Friday Nite Fights. Eight fights are scheduled, with the feature event a lightweight fight bout between Joey "The Fighting Marine" VanDaniker and Johnny Edwards. 7 p.m. doors open; 8 p.m. first bout. Tomorrow.
