Vaccinations at Safeway

Safeway is offering flu and pneumonia vaccinations for ages 12 and older through Nov. 18 at its locations in Prince George's County and elsewhere. Registered nurses will administer the shots. People 65 and older will be given priority for shots through Oct. 24, in compliance with guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control. For those not covered by Medicare, flu shots are $25 and pneumonia shots are $35. The vaccines are free for Medicare Part B participants who present their card and complete a roster billing form.

Seminars Scheduled

The Economic Development and Training Institute will present several free business workshops this month. Tomorrow's topic is pitfalls to avoid in business. Human resources for small businesses will be the subject on Monday, and Tuesday's seminar will be about using Quickbooks. Award Nominations Begin

The University of Maryland's Robert H. Smith School of Business is accepting nominations for its 2006 Smith Leadership and Excellence Awards. The school gives the awards annually to business leaders and organizations that have a significant and positive impact on the mid-Atlantic region. The four categories are: Business Excellence, Leaders for the Digital Economy, Leadership Excellence and Public Excellence. Nominations may be submitted online at Deadline for submissions is Nov. 21. Winners will be announced at a ceremony in May.

Chamber Plans Events

The Baltimore/Washington Corridor Chamber of Commerce will hold a free Membership 101 class from 9 to 10:30 a.m. today at the organization's office, 312 Marshall Ave., Suite 104, Laurel. Topics include effective networking techniques, how to find new clients and how to choose events to attend in search of new business.

The chamber's monthly networking breakfast is from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. Tuesday at Sam's Club, 3535 Russett Green East, Laurel. Admission is $30 for nonmembers and members who pay at the door, and $20 for members who pay in advance.

The 14th annual Baltimore/Washington Area Government and Prime Contractor Procurement Fair will take place from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 25 at the Greenbelt Marriott, 6400 Ivy Lane. Procurement officials from federal, state and local governments will be there, along with universities and a few corporations. Admission paid by tomorrow is $55 for nonmembers, $45 for members. After tomorrow, admission will be $75 for everyone.

School Changes Owners

Commercial real estate company NAI Michael recently sold the Edgemeade School building and property to Sunrise Academy, a school for physically challenged students. Sunrise Academy has a location in the District. The Edgemeade School is located at 13101 Croom Rd. in Upper Marlboro. Sunrise will house a training site and school at the property.
