School Fracas A 16-year-old Coolidge Senior High student was arrested on assault charges Tuesday after he allegedly fought with a school official in a school hallway, authorities said.
The skirmish occurred about 8:45 a.m. at the school in the 6300 block of Fifth Street NW. During the fight, according to police, the student allegedly threw a plastic bottle at the official. The teenager was charged with assault with a dangerous weapon. His name was withheld because he is a juvenile.
Police said they also are investigating how the teenager received a cut under his eye, which required stitches. Police and school officials would not identify which school employee was involved. One D.C. police official, who declined to be identified because there is an ongoing investigation, said the fight was with the school's principal.
Student Beating A George Washington University student remains unconscious and in critical condition after a beating Sunday, police said yesterday. Akeem Samuels, 20, was punched and kicked after an argument with another student over football. The incident occurred at 2:25 a.m. in the 1700 block of G Street NW, police said. Samuels, a senior, was unconscious when taken to George Washington University Hospital.
Chad Dauman, 21, of the 1100 block of New Hampshire Avenue NW was charged with assault with a deadly weapon. Dauman, who also attends GWU, was jailed pending a hearing Friday. Police quoted him as saying that he acted in self-defense.
Hearing in Slaying A man wanted in a July 2000 killing in the Falls Church area of Fairfax County told a police sergeant that his victim told him to shoot her and that his gun "simply went off," the sergeant testified yesterday.
Mariza Segovia, 36, was shot in a unit at the Falls Church Gardens Apartments. Police charged her boyfriend, Fidel Angel Coreas, 40, with murder after he was arrested last year after a shootout with Durham, N.C., police.
