One man was killed and two men were wounded last night in separate shootings in Prince George's County, including a shooting that police said they are investigating as a road rage incident.
Police arrested a man in the suspected road rage case shortly after the 6:30 p.m. shooting happened at Old Alexandria Ferry Road and Virginia Avenue in Clinton, police said.
Investigators said they believe the shooting occurred after the wounded man, who drove a Nissan, became involved in an argument with the driver of a Mercedes-Benz while the two men were traveling on Old Alexandria Ferry Road, said Cpl. Kim Brown, a police spokeswoman. The cars stopped at a traffic light at Virginia Avenue, and the Nissan's driver left his car and approached the driver's side of the Mercedes. Brown said the Mercedes's driver drew a handgun and fired several times at the Nissan's driver, then drove away.
The wounded man was flown to a hospital with injuries to his torso that rescuers considered life-threatening, said a county fire department spokesman. Witnesses gave officers a description of the Mercedes and its license plate, Brown said. Soon after the shooting, police arrested a man standing near the car in the 9900 block of Gay Drive, about two miles from the shooting.
Police did not identify the wounded man or the man in custody. No charges had been filed, police said.
In the second case, two men were shot in an apartment complex parking lot near a playground in the 2600 block of Kent Village Drive in Kentland about 10 p.m., authorities said. Police said they received a call from a man who said his friend was shot.
When officers arrived, they found one man shot in the lower body. After a brief search, officers found a second man dead at the scene, with wounds to the upper body, Brown said. The surviving shooting victim was conscious before being taken to a hospital, she said.
