Arrest in Sex Assaults

St. Mary's County authorities charged a Lexington Park man Wednesday in connection with sexual offenses this month involving three girls, ages 13 and 14.

Law enforcement officials said the incidents were first reported Oct. 3 to St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations detectives who were working on another case. Authorities said two men were involved in the incidents.

Detectives arrested Jaime Alfredo Valle-Barrera, 20, at his residence in Lexington Park. He was charged with one count of second-degree rape and one count of second-degree sex offense.

The second suspect, who is 19, has not been located, and detectives said he may have fled the state.

The St. Mary's County Bureau of Criminal Investigations is an investigative team comprising detectives from the St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office and the Maryland State Police, Leonardtown Barrack.

Man Sought in Car Thefts

The Charles County Sheriff's Office is seeking a man who it says stole 18 cars from vacant lots on Stuckey Road in Indian Head this month.

On Oct. 4, the sheriff's office received calls from several people who reported their cars had been stolen from two lots in a residential area on Stuckey Road.

Investigators have issued a warrant for the arrest of Michael Donnell Young, 20, of Indian Head in connection with the thefts.

Detectives said Young falsely represented himself as the owner of the vehicles and sold them to a towing company, which used a forklift and a flatbed truck to remove the vehicles. The vehicles were all older models, and some of them had been abandoned in the lots, authorities said.

After purchasing the vehicles, the tow company stripped the vehicles and sold the parts to salvage yards. Investigators said four of the vehicles were recovered, but the others had been stripped and were destroyed.
