Corgi Rescued From Traffic

GEORGE WASHINGTON PKWY., Oct. 12. A motorist picked up a male corgi that was darting in and out of traffic and took it to the city shelter. Two days later, the Fairfax County Shelter called the Alexandria shelter about receiving a lost-pet report for the dog. The owner was contacted and claimed the corgi.

Sickly Chipmunk in Yard

UPLAND PL., 500 block, Oct. 12. Animal control picked up a sickly chipmunk found in a back yard. The animal was taken to the city shelter, where it was euthanized.

Arlington

Rambunctious Dog Invades Yard

JEFFERSON ST. S., 700 block, Oct. 12. A man called animal control about a playful puppy interrupting his yard work. He agreed to take the Pomeranian mix to the county shelter. The owner claimed the puppy at the county shelter after calling to report that the dog was lost. Animal control gave the owner an ID tag for the pet.

Dog Escapes From Home

CLEVELAND ST. N., 2000 block, Oct. 11. Eluding an animal control officer, a barking Shiba Inu ran back and forth on a street before stopping in front of a home with a gate. When the officer opened the gate and walked to a door, the dog followed into the yard. A woman in the house confirmed that the dog lived there. She said that when she returned home earlier, the gate was open and she assumed the dog was away with its owner. She agreed to ask other residents of the home to keep the gate closed to prevent the dog from escaping.

Special Shelter Hours

The Animal Welfare League of Arlington, which is usually closed on Sundays, will have adoption hours from noon to 4 p.m. Sunday to celebrate Adopt a Shelter Dog Month. Dogs and other animals will be available for adoption at the shelter, 2650 S. Arlington Mill Dr., Arlington.
