Germantown HELP needs volunteers to deliver emergency food throughout the year. Shifts can be after work or during the day, once or twice a month. The American Councils for International Education seeks volunteers to help screen applications from students in Afghanistan, Serbia, Montenegro and the republics of the former Soviet Union. The students are applying to spend a year living with an American family and attending a U.S. high school. Volunteers will be trained on how to evaluate the applications. The Bethesda-Chevy Chase Rescue Squad seeks men and women ages 16 and older to become volunteer emergency medical technicians, paramedics and firefighters. Applicants need no previous experience and receive free training at the Montgomery County Public Safety Training Academy as well as annual physicals. The Western Montgomery County Citizens Advisory Board has one vacancy on the Bethesda Transportation Management District Advisory Committee. The nominee must reside within the Bethesda Transportation Management District and south of East West Highway and Old Georgetown Road. Members serve three-year terms without compensation and meet in the morning on the third Friday of each month in Bethesda.
