Psychologically Healthy Workplaces Awarded
The Maryland Psychological Association named two local businesses winners of the "Psychologically Healthy Workplace" award.
Carl M. Freeman Associates Inc., an Olney real estate company, and NASD, a Rockville-based financial regulatory company, won the award for demonstrating "a commitment to the psychological health and well-being of their employees."
Criteria for winning the award included workplace safety and security, wellness programs, insurance options, conflict management procedures, family support programs, opportunities for flexible work hours and employee growth and development mechanisms.
The companies will be honored at the Maryland Psychological Association's annual convention Saturday at the Baltimore Sheraton North Hotel in Towson.
President of Mutual Fund Firm Wins Athena Award
Barbara Krumsiek, president of the mutual fund company Calvert Group, won the 2005 Athena award, which honors female business leaders who live or work in Montgomery County.
Krumsiek was given the award at the Women Business Owners of Montgomery County annual gala Friday at the Gaithersburg Hilton.
Krumsiek joined Calvert Group in 1997. In 2001, Washingtonian magazine named her one of Washington's 100 most powerful women.
She has a bachelor's degree in mathematics from Rutgers University and a master's degree in mathematics from New York University.
Krumsiek, 53, lives in Bethesda with her husband, Bart Leonard, and their two daughters.
The Athena program is a national program created to honor individuals and corporations that have given opportunities to women in the workplace.
