La Plata Salutes Veterans

La Plata gives a salute to veterans with a parade and celebration featuring guest speakers, music, food and a wreath-laying ceremony. Two Holocaust Plays

The McDonough High School Theatre Guild presents "A Night of Remembrance," consisting of two productions dealing with the Holocaust: "I Never Saw Another Butterfly" by Celeste Raspanti, and "And Then They Came For Me" by James Still. Curtain time is 7 p.m. today, tomorrow and Saturday; 2 p.m. Sunday. Both shows are directed by Jana Heyl. Benefit Run/Walk

The "Step by Step" 5K run and walk to honor Mike Blackwell, a marathon runner killed in January 2001 while jogging along Broomes Island Road, takes place Saturday, with proceeds to benefit Calvert Alliance Against Substance Abuse programs. 8 a.m. registration and check-in; 9 a.m. start at Calvert Marine Museum, 14150 Solomons Island Rd., Solomons. $20 early registration fee for adults; $10 for students and Calvert Alliance and Chesapeake Bay Running Club members; $25 on the day of the race. 410-535-3733.
