What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

"There are two issues that are important to my district: transportation and education. We must work to alleviate our congestion problems, and I believe the first step is making Metrorail to Dulles a reality. We also have to create a dedicated and secure transportation trust fund that cannot be raided for other state projects. On the education front, we must fight to get the state to fully fund its obligation to our public schools so that we can reduce overcrowding and raise teacher salaries. This will ensure that Fairfax County public schools remain the best in the state."

Why should voters elect you?

"I bring the experience to protect our quality of life in the 67th District, and I will work across party lines to do just that."

Age: 27

Education: BA, economics, George Mason University.

Occupation: Director of student ministries, the King's Chapel.

Elected offices/civic activities: Member, Fairfax County Republican Committee; coach, Chantilly High School boys' and girls' soccer; volunteer, Young Life; volunteer, Prison Fellowship's Angel Tree program; former coach, Northern Virginia Rugby Club; former coach, James Madison High School.

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

"The 67th District, like the rest of Northern Virginia, struggles under the burden of the two T's: taxes and traffic. Northern Virginia taxpayers contribute most of the state revenue yet never receive a proportionate amount of allocations, especially as the transportation budget is raided for projects around the state. I will fight to see that our money is returned to us so that we can take care of our own community -- a community that is struggling under the stress of long commutes, skyrocketing property taxes and a disproportionate state tax burden."

Why should voters elect you?

"We need leadership that will bring new ideas to the table and reject the old tax-and-spend mentality that is exploiting Northern Virginia families without results."

Chuck J. Eby Jr. (L)

Age: 49

Residence: Fair Lakes.

Education: BS, computer science, Virginia Tech.

Occupation: Manager, large defense contractor.

Elected offices/civic activities: Treasurer, Fair Lakes Homeowners Association; volunteer, Adopt-a-Highway; volunteer, Adopt-a-Stream.

What do you think is the most urgent problem facing your jurisdiction?

"The most urgent issue facing voters of my district is the rise in taxes due to the out-of-control growth of our state government. Working families have a hard enough time paying their bills without having to budget more money each year for our delegates to go on a spending spree. I will repeal last year's huge, unnecessary tax increase, refund what you were overcharged directly to you and pass a Taxpayer's Bill of Rights, like Colorado and Washington state have done, that will limit the future growth in state spending to the inflation rate plus population growth."

Why should voters elect you?

"I combine fiscal responsibility with social tolerance to give you what neither of my opponents offers: small government and freedom to live as you choose."
