County Starts Call Center

The county Department of Public Works and Transportation has opened a call center to answer questions about highway maintenance, traffic and certain parking issues. Residents can call 240-777-6000 from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays.

Requests or questions about potholes, sidewalks, road resurfacing, paving, tree maintenance, mowing, storm drainage, leaf vacuuming, snow removal, traffic signals, streetlights, street signs, lane markings, traffic calming measures, subdivision development plan review and parking policies can be addressed by a staff person. The call center was launched to make it easier to get information from a single place.

Library to Host Fitness Fair

Long Branch Library will host a teenage health and fitness fair, featuring a guest appearance by former Harlem Globetrotter Spinny Johnson, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday.

The "Get Real, Get Fit!" event will include body fat analysis, Jazzercise, tai chi and kung fu demonstrations, fitness screenings and nutrition counseling.

Participants can also watch "In the Mix," a PBS series on nutrition and activity.

The event is part of a nationwide program sponsored by Libraries for the Future and the MetLife Foundation, which promotes physical fitness and healthy eating. 8800 Garland Ave., Silver Spring. 240-777-0910.

Meeting on Regional Park

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission will hold a community meeting to discuss the future of Little Bennett Regional Park from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday at Cedar Brook Community Church.

The 3,600-acre park in northern Montgomery is the county's largest. It includes a golf course, a driving range, a campground and trails. The meeting is to discuss the park's future and its master plan. 23700 Stringtown Rd., Clarksburg. 301-650-4391.

5K to Help School, Library

Bethesda Elementary School and Bethesda Regional Library will receive proceeds from the eighth annual Edgemoor Classic 5K, starting at 8 a.m. Sunday.
