A Rooster on the Loose
ANNANDALE AREA, Dassett Ct., 7900 block, 9:15 a.m. Oct. 30. A rooster was reported running loose at an apartment complex. An animal control officer took the rooster to the county shelter, where it was to be held as a stray.
Officer Euthanizes Rabid Skunk
FAIRFAX AREA, Doyle Rd., 5700 block, 8 a.m. Oct. 30. An animal control officer was called about an aggressive skunk. The officer euthanized the animal, which later tested positive for rabies. The skunk might have come into contact with a dog and a pony on the property, but both animals had up-to-date rabies vaccinations. They were expected to get booster shots.
Puppy Left Tied to Pole
SOUTH RUN AREA, Southrun Road and Jovin Circle, 2 p.m. Oct. 31. A Labrador retriever puppy mix was tied to a telephone pole with an apron. A witness notified a police officer about the apparently abandoned dog, which was taken to the county shelter.

Stray Dog at Dealership
UNIVERSITY DRIVE AND FAIRFAX BOULEVARD, 9 p.m. Oct. 31. A woman found a small white dog running loose at a car dealership and took it to the city shelter, where it was claimed by its owner. The owner was cited for allowing a dog to run at large. It was the second time in October the dog was found loose, according to animal control.
