Annapolis Film Festival is a four-day event from Nov. 11 to 14 that showcases films by local and international filmmakers. Annapolis Holiday Cheer is continuing to collect new toys and supplies for hurricane victims in the Gulf Coast region and local area foster children from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. today and tomorrow at Von Paris Moving and Storage on Route 2 in Arnold or Evolutions Body Clinic in Annapolis. Best Buddies of Maryland enhances the lives of people with disabilities by providing opportunities for one-on-one friendship and integrated employment. Through such relationships, people with mental retardation can learn to be confident, independent and interactive members of society. The Holiday Sharing Program of the Anne Arundel County Department of Social Services needs Thanksgiving and Christmas donors to provide families and senior citizens with food, gifts and toys. Hope House, a nonprofit residential treatment program in Crownsville, needs volunteers to work in the front desk reception area and to help the accountant with data entry. Training will be provided as well as transportation expenses and lunch. Hope House also needs donations of new or lightly used items, including clothing, shoes and nonbreakable dishes, bowls, cups, glasses and flatware. New socks and underwear and personal hygiene items are also needed, including soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, shampoo, conditioner, razors, shaving cream, makeup and curling irons. Maryland Maritime Heritage Festival's Volvo Ocean Race Kickoff Party needs volunteers in two shifts, 12:30 to 3 p.m. and 3 to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, to help check IDs, sell beverage tickets, serve beverages and more. The party, held in partnership with Volvo Ocean Race and the Eastport Yacht Club, will be at Fawcett Boat Supplies in Annapolis with speakers from North Sails and Farr Yacht Design, entertainment by Stereopool and food and drink. U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service's Chesapeake Bay Field Office in Annapolis conserves, protects and enhances fish and wildlife habitats throughout the Chesapeake Bay watershed. We Care and Friends presents its 15th annual free Thanksgiving Dinner for the homeless and needy from 4 to 9 p.m. Nov. 21 at the Stanton Center at 92 W. Washington St. in Annapolis. This annual dinner feeds more than 3,000 people and continues to grow thanks to donations of food (turkeys, hams, roast beef, desserts, beverages), paper goods, time and money.
