A school bus and a Cadillac collided in the Colesville area yesterday, killing one of the people in the car. Six Montgomery County sixth-graders were taken to hospitals, police and rescue officials said.
None of the students suffered injuries, officials said.
The identity of the adult who died in the accident was withheld until family members could be notified. The students were taken to Montgomery General and Holy Cross hospitals, where they were evaluated and released, officials said.
"Whenever young people are involved, you're just very careful," said Lucille Baur, a Montgomery County police spokeswoman.
The accident on New Hampshire Avenue near Bonifant Road happened just before 2 p.m., as heavy storms battered the area, said Pete Piringer, a county fire and rescue spokesman.
The Argyle Middle School students and school staff members had boarded the bus after a field trip to the National Air and Space Museum on the Mall, school officials said. It was not immediately clear how many people were on the bus.
Two adults, neither of whom officials identified yesterday, were in the Cadillac. Both were trapped inside the automobile for 15 to 20 minutes after the accident, and both suffered serious and life-threatening injuries, officials said. They were transported to area hospitals, Piringer said.
