Owner of Dogs Given Citations
SILVER SPRING, Dogwood Dr., 13000 block, Nov. 8. Animal services received complaints about a black Labrador retriever and a German shepherd escaping from a fenced yard. Several warnings and citations were issued to the owner, who agreed to have the fence repaired. When an animal services officer went to the residence to assess the progress of the repair, he found the Labrador tethered with a choke-chain collar, a violation of county law, which requires that dogs chained outside be equipped with a harness. As the officer was removing the retriever, the German shepherd escaped through a hole in the fence. The officer caught the shepherd and took both dogs to the Montgomery County Animal Shelter. The owner claimed the dogs the next day and paid a $151 impoundment fee. He was given citations for allowing a dog to run loose (second offense, $200) and improper tethering (second offense, $750).
Terrier Is Taken to Shelter
SILVER SPRING, Snider Lane, 1100 block, Nov. 9. A caller reported that a neighbor's dog was tied outdoors without access to water or shelter. An animal services officer found a white West Highland terrier wearing a harness attached to a reel-type leash that had become stuck. The terrier also had freed one leg from the harness. The dog did not have access to food, water or shelter and was impounded. Five days later, the owner came forward, saying her sons had been caring for the dog while she was out of town and had left it outside after going out for the evening. The owner paid $107 in impoundment fees and was given a $500 citation for improper tethering.
Loose Cow's Frolic Halted
GERMANTOWN, Flagstone Dr., 1 to 100 block, Nov. 10. Animal services received a call about a cow that had gotten loose and was chasing some dogs that were also running loose. Two animal services officers were able to steer the black Angus cow back to its property. The owner was notified. No charges were filed.
