Looking for volunteer opportunities? The following organizations need volunteer help for a day, a week or on a regular basis.

Colesville Meals on Wheels is seeking help to deliver meals to the homebound in Woodmoor, Four Corners, Burnt Mills, White Oak, Colesville, Calverton and Burtonsville. Meals are delivered between 10:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. Volunteers are asked to commit to two hours a week, two hours every other week or once a month or to be on the substitute list. For more information, call Sarah Day at 301-384-5735.

The Ruth Rales Comcast Kids Reading Network, a program coordinated by the Montgomery County public schools' Division of Family and Community Partnerships, seeks volunteer tutors to work with struggling second-grade readers at 56 schools. Training, support and tutoring materials and books are provided. Each volunteer tutors a second-grader one hour a week before, during or after school. The Greater Chesapeake and Potomac Blood Services Region of the American Red Cross seeks volunteers to assist its blood collection staff members at blood drives and donor centers. Volunteers greet donors, hand out reading materials, serve refreshments and observe donors for post-donation reactions. Volunteers must be at least 14 years old. Training is provided. The Jewish Social Service Agency needs volunteers to shop for and visit with frail seniors who live at home. Each volunteer shopper receives a list (by phone or in person) from the senior citizen, purchases the items and delivers the groceries. Volunteers are paired with a senior and meet with him or her at least every other week for about an hour. For more information, call Diane Hayes-Earp at 301-816-2639.

The agency also seeks volunteers for its resettlement program to teach English to new immigrants from the former Soviet Union. Training and materials are provided. For more information, call Nina Sznurman at 301-770-5120.

Luke's House, a rehabilitation and housing facility and clinic for adults with serious and persistent mental illness, needs volunteers to do clerical work. Also, volunteer musicians, vocalists and entertainers are needed to entertain residents at Friday evening social hours, and arts and crafts instructors are needed to help residents make gifts and decorations. Boards and Commissions

The Montgomery County Council seeks applicants for county representative on the Board of Investment Trustees for the Montgomery County Employee Retirement Plans. Applicants should be knowledgeable about pensions, investments or financial matters. Trustees serve for three-year terms without compensation. The board meets quarterly for several hours, usually on the first Friday of March, June, September and December. Frederick County

The Frederick Community Action Agency seeks volunteers for its food bank and soup kitchen programs. The food bank, which serves 350 to 450 families a week, needs volunteers to prepare food boxes, sort donated food, restock shelves and help families select food items between 2 and 4 p.m. Monday-Friday. The soup kitchen serves a free evening meal seven nights a week to families and individuals (as many as 110 a night), and volunteers are needed to serve food and clean up. Meals are served from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m., and volunteers usually work one night a week or every other week (schedules are flexible) from 5:15 to 7 p.m. For more information, call Bruce Gourley at 301-360-3966.
