Justin Brown, Annapolis, Sr. G: Brown's outside shooting provided a lift for Annapolis last year as he averaged 15.2 points and 4.3 assists per game. He hit a team-high 46 three-pointers.

Kevin Coates, Annapolis, Sr. F: Coates has been the most-talked-about player this preseason. At 6-4, he averaged 17 points and 9.3 rebounds a game last season.

Andrew Engel, Old Mill, Sr. G: He was an all-county soccer player but likes basketball better. That could be a good sign of things to come.

Rodney Stokes, Old Mill, Sr. F: When coaches weren't talking about Coates, they were talking about Stokes this preseason. His 6-8 frame could do some damage in the paint.

Kurtis Levere, South River, S. G: Levere didn't play last year, so he could be the best-kept secret in the county. He probably won't be a secret for long.

Johann Jones, Meade, Sr. F: Averaging about 12 points and just under nine rebounds per game, Jones will anchor the Mustangs after what his coach called a "great" offseason.

Anthony Thomas, North County, Jr. F: The 6-4 player was part of a North County team that lost a number of close games last year, including at least five by two-point margins.

Derek Young, Spalding, Sr. G: The 6-2 senior should be a leader on one of the area's most talented teams.
