Time Warner Keeping All of AOL
Time Warner Inc. has decided not to sell a minority stake in Dulles-based America Online Inc. Time Warner shareholder Carl C. Icahn has proposed selling off AOL's media businesses, while chief executive Richard D. Parsons maintains that stockholders will benefit most if the company is kept intact.
Toll Road Privatization
The Virginia Department of Transportation advanced four proposals to privatize the Dulles Toll Road and dropped a fifth from further consideration. The state will nominate a panel of transportation experts in the next two months to review the proposals and make a final recommendation as to which should operate, maintain and collect tolls on the road.
Hearing on Metro Silver Line
Managers of the massive project that would extend Metro to Loudoun County unveiled their plans at a public hearing. The proposed Silver Line would span 23 miles from East Falls Church to Dulles International Airport, with the first phase of construction slated for completion by 2011.
Dulles Adds Waiting Lot
Dulles International Airport is opening a free parking lot Dec. 21 where motorists with cell phones can wait for up to an hour for arriving passengers to call them. The renovated lot at Rudder Road and Autopilot Drive will be about 11/2 miles from the main terminal.
Bank Robbery Indictment
A federal grand jury has indicted Candice R. Martinez on six felony counts alleging that she robbed four banks in Northern Virginia, including one in Ashburn. The bank robber appeared to carry on a cell phone conversation during each of the robberies.
