SCHOOLSLocker Fire Causes Middle School EvacuationA fire in a locker on the first floor of Kelly Miller Middle School caused the building to be evacuated yesterday afternoon, D.C. fire officials said. The school, in the 300 block of 49th Street NE, was evacuated about 1:40 p.m., said Alan Etter, spokesman for the D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department. Students were taken to a nearby school to continue classes for the day.

A girl was examined on the scene for symptoms of smoke inhalation, but no other injuries were reported, Etter said. He said the fire was under investigation.

Two were shot in the head, and one was fatally stabbed, D.C. police said. Royell Walker, 20, was shot Tuesday night in the 3500 block of East Capitol Street SE. He had lived in the 3500 block of A Street SE.

Van Young, 16, was found by police about 10:15 p.m. Monday in the 900 block of Blakney Lane SE. Young, of the 4300 block of Third Street SE, had been shot and was found in the driver's seat of a 2005 Toyota Camry.

Ignacio Cordova, 40, was found about 11:45 p.m. Sunday in his apartment in the 3600 block of 16th Street NW. He had been fatally stabbed, police said.
