Another Teacher AccusedA Howard County teacher has been accused of having sex with a student -- the third teacher in the system to be arrested on sex offense charges since January, police said. Kirsten A. Kinley, 27, a special education teacher at Marriotts Ridge High School, turned herself in to authorities after learning about a warrant for her arrest on charges of having sex with a 15-year-old boy in 2004 and 2005. College President to RetireHoward Community College President Mary Ellen Duncan, who oversaw unprecedented growth during nine years at the once-struggling institution in Columbia, announced her retirement. The HCC Board of Trustees said it had chosen the college's executive vice president, Kate Hetherington, to lead the 36-year-old institution after Duncan retires in June from her $196,378-a-year post.

Teen Dies in Sledding AccidentA Howard County teenager died after striking a tree while sledding, the latest in a series of accidents in the region on hillsides coated with ice during last week's storm.

Ryan Conley, 16, was sledding with his sister on their family's farm. Paramedics had to use ropes and pulleys attached to trees to reach the teenager because of icy conditions on the steep, 1,000-foot long hill.
