A Northwest Washington couple suffered serious injuries early yesterday morning when they were shot by two burglars in the second-floor bedroom of their home, D.C. police reported.
Daniel Beardsley, 34, and his wife, Kate Beardsley, 29, were shot after they were awakened by two burglars inside their bedroom at 1403 Allison St. NW. police said. They said Beardsley was shot once in the chest, and Mrs. Beardsley suffered gunshot wounds in both legs. They were brought to Washington Hospital Center, where they were listed in serious condition yesterday.
Police said that Daniel Beardsley is employed by the National League of Cities, and that Kate Beardsley works as a special counsel for the White House Office of Management and Budget.
Officials said the burglars forced their way into the house through a first-floor window and fled with an undetermined amount of property.

In another incident, two Northwest Washington residents were listed in stable condition at Washington Hospital Center after they were shot yesterday during a quarrel, D.C. police reported.
Sonya McQueen, 20, and Danum Hyson, 21, were shot at about 10 a.m. in front of McQueen's home at 72 T St. NW by a third person. McQueen suffered gunshot wounds in the left arm and back, and Hyson was shot once in the left forearm, officials said. Police said they are looking for an acquaintance of one of the victims.
