Authorities have given out the following plan for weekday buses and car pools while the 14th Street bridge express lanes are closed. Significant delays are expected on most Virginia routes.

BUSES: Route 11 buses from Old Town Alexandria and route 16A, D and E buses from Culmore will follow normal routes over the Memorial Bridge.

Route 5K, 5S, 38A and 38B buses from McLean and Vienna will follow normal routes over Key Bridge.

Route 5W and 5Z buses from Vienna and 38C buses from Ballston will follow normal routes over the Roosevelt Bridge.

Route 16B and C buses from Culmore will go downtown via the 14th Street bridge.

All other D.C. bound buses from Virginia will end up at the Pentagon during the morning rush hour, 6:30 to 9:30. Shuttle buses will take people from there to terminal points at 10th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue NW or Seventh and D streets SW over the 14th Street bridge. Once over the bridge, passengers can get off at any bus stop on the way.

Bus riders bound for Virginia from D.C. in the morning rush must take the shuttle to the Pentagon from either 10th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue or Seventh and D streets SW.

After the morning rush hour, buses bound for D.C. from Virginia, except for those listed above, will follow normal schedules.

CAR POOLS: Inbound pools on Shirley Highway (I-395) must exit the express lanes at Washington Boulevard and should head into D.C. over Memorial Bridge. Pools headed for the Pentagon, Pentagon City or the Crystal City area should display some sort of "P" through the front windshield and may go past the Washington Boulevard exit on the express lanes to the Pentagon exit. Signs along Eads Street will direct those exiting here. No express lane traffic will be allowed past the Pentagon exit.

Outbound car pools should not enter the Shirley Highway express lanes until the Turkey Cock Run entrance.

The car pool express lane on Rte. 50 (Arlington Boulevard) will operate as usual, with possible delays because of heavy traffic on Memorial and Roosevelt bridges.
