Two men were killed yesterday in what D.C. police said was a drug-related shootout at the corner of 9th and U streets NW.
Thomas Michael Meyer, 33, of 1015 Fairmont St. NW, was shot several times in the head at around 11 a.m., police said. He was taken to the Medstar unit of Washington Hospital Center, where he died several hours later.
A second man, Clifton Carrey, 38, with no known address, was pronounced dead shortly before noon at Greater Southeast Community Hospital. Police said he was identified by a member of the Meyer family as also having been involved in the shooting at 9th and U streets.
Apparently, police said, friends of Carrey had taken him to a home in the 2300 block of Good Hope Road SE following the shooting, before calling an ambulance. Carrey had been shot in the chest.
Police said they had not determined whether the two men shot each other or whether other assailants were involved.
In an unrelated incident, a woman was listed in critical condition at Washington Hospital Center after being shot at around 1 p.m. near her home on the 2200 block of Sherman Avenue NW. Police said that Alberta Smith, 27, had been involved in a domestic dispute. No arrests had been made last night, but police said a suspect was being sought.
