The General Services Administration has sold the old lighthouse building and 3.12 acres in Port Mahon, Del., to the Delaware Storage and Pipeline Co. for $9,100. "It's adjacent to our property," said Eliot W. Denault Jr., president of Delaware Storage. "We want it for the beach." Renovation plans are "in the future," he said.
The Small Business Administration claims it has saved taxpayers $6.7 million in its test program of directing Air Force spare parts contracts to small business.
The Defense Department's Council of Integrity and Management Improvement is expanding its program to encourage the use of discount air fares for DOD travel. In the first year, the Air Force estimates it could have spent as much as $27.5 million more than it did if every traveler with a discount fare had paid the highest available economy fare.
The Transportation Department's Maritime Administration has conditionally approved a federal loan guarantee to finance construction of two U.S. ships that will be used to incinerate hazardous chemical wastes at sea. The ships will be built by the Tacoma Boatbuilding Co. under a $74.5 million contract. The guarantee would cover the equivalent of 75 percent of the construction cost.
