A man with a .38 caliber revolver approached the snack bar area of a department store in Falls Church last night, shot and wounded one man who was there, then shot and killed a woman employe before shooting and killing himself, police reported.

The two killings, which took place about 10 p.m. in the Zayre store on Wilson Boulevard, were described as an apparent homicide and suicide by Falls Church police.

All three persons involved in the shootings apparently were acquainted, according to Falls Church police Lt. Paul Lucas.

However, police said early this morning that they could not immediately provide a motive for the incident, which involved what was believed to be the first homicide in Falls Church since 1979.

The identities of all three persons were withheld pending notification of relatives.

According to a Zayre official, the store normally closes about 10 p.m., but was to be kept open until midnight last night for a special sale.

The armed man shot the male victim in the abdomen, police said. Then, according to police, he "got the woman and put her down." While the woman was on the floor, the man shot her in the face, wounding her fatally, police reported.

Then, according to police, the man placed his weapon against his own head and pulled the trigger, shooting and killing himself.

The wounded man was taken to Arlington Hospital where he was reported early today in fair condition.
