Two men were wounded yesterday after they surprised three burglars in a Bethesda house, Montgomery police said. Two suspects were arrested several hours later.

Police said Barry Lofton Lee, 33, and James Watson Henry, 30, were wounded at 9:30 a.m. when they encountered a man and two women in the living room of Lee's house at 10601 Old Georgetown Rd. Police said the male intruder, a tall, well dressed man, shot Lee and Henry with a handgun before fleeing with the two women in a green Chevrolet Camaro.

At 2:30 p.m., police said, they saw a vehicle of that description in the parking lot of the 7-Eleven store on Metropolitan Avenue in Wheaton, and arrested Wayne Lemont Van Buren, 31, of 5530 Central Avenue NE, and Rosana Smith, 30, of no known address, as they were leaving the car. The suspects were charged with two counts each of assault with intent to murder and use of a handgun to commit a felony. Police said a handgun found in the car will be examined to determine if it was the weapon used in the shooting.

Police are looking for the other woman.

Lee and Henry, who drove themselves to Suburban Hospital after the attack, were listed in fair condition there last night.
