Montgomery County officials have recommended several routes to help commuters avoid traffic congestion near the Shady Grove Metro station.

In addition, officials said Ride-On bus service will be increased on Rte. 55 to provide buses every eight minutes from 6:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and from 4:45 p.m. to 6:15 p.m. on weekdays. At other times, Rte. 55 buses are to run at least every 30 minutes, officials said.

Officials said drivers will save time by following the suggested routes, although distances may be longer. The county's recommendations included:

* From Montgomery Village, take either Centerway Road or Lost Knife Road and Odend'hal Avenue to Goshen Road. Then follow Emory Grove Road, Rte. 124 and the Mid-County Highway to Shady Grove Road, then to the station.

* From Damascus, Laytonsville and Mount Airy, take Woodfield Road, Brink Road and Goshen Road to Emory Grove Road. Then follow the same route as from Montgomery Village.

* From Darnestown and Poolesville, take Rte. 28, Quince Orchard Road, Rte. 355 and Odend'hal Avenue to Goshen Road. Then follow Emory Grove Road, the same route as from Montgomery Village.

* From Dufief and western Gaithersburg, take Rte. 28, Muddy Branch Road and West Diamond Avenue to Rte. 355. Turn left at the station about one-half mile south of Shady Grove Road.

* From Frederick and other points along I-270, take the "Rte. 124 East" exit from I-270 to Rte. 355. Then take Odend'hal Avenue, Goshen Road and Emory Grove Road and follow the same route as from Montgomery Village.

* From Barnesville and Germantown, take Clopper Road, Quince Orchard Road, Rte. 355, Odend'hal Avenue, Goshen Road and Emory Grove Road. Then follow the same route as from Montgomery Village.
