A former official or employe may not assist or represent a party . . . in a case, contract or other specific matter if that matter is one in which he significantly participated as an official or an employe.

A former official or employe may not enter into any agreement with any person or business entity who is a contractor with the county for one year following the effective date of termination of government employment if the employe personally and substantially participated in the regulation or control of the person or business entity or had official responsibility concerning a contract with the person or business entity.

*PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY

A former official or employe may not assist or represent a party other than the county for compensation in a case, contract or other specific matter involving the county if that matter is one in which he significantly participated as an official or employe.

*DISTRICT OF COLUMBIA

Former officers or employes are prohibited for life from representing any other person by appearance or by written or oral communication to any department, agency or court of the United States or the District of Columbia in connection with any party on a matter involving specific parties in which the United States or the District of Columbia is a party or has an interest and in which they participated personally and substantially while with the government.

Former officers or employes are prohibited for two years from representing any other person by appearance or by written or oral communication to any department, agency or court of the United States or the District of Columbia in connection with any party on a matter involving specific parties in which the United States or the District of Columbia is a party or has an interest and which was pending under their official responsibility during their last year of government service.

Senior employes are prohibited for two years from assisting and representing by personal presence before any department, agency or court of the United States or the District of Columbia in connection with any particular matter involving specific parties in which he or she participated personally and substantially while with the government in which the United States or the District of Columbia is a party or has an interest.

Senior employes are prohibited from representing for one year anyone with the intent to influence through written or oral communication back to the department or agency where they worked.

*OTHER JURISDICTIONS

Fairfax, Arlington and Alexandria have adopted no such provisions covering a former employe's contact with the locality. There is a Virginia procurement law that includes a one-year prohibition on public employes involved in contracts from going to work for any firm with which they have been dealing. The employe can avoid coming under the law's provision by providing written notice prior to taking such a post.
