Missing 9-Year-Old Boy

Is Feared Dead by Police

SPOKANE, Wash. -- Mounting evidence indicates that a missing 9-year-old boy is dead, authorities said Sunday, a day after his 8-year-old sister was found with a registered sex offender in Idaho.

As more than 40 police officers and FBI agents searched for Dylan Groene, Joseph E. Duncan III, 42, who is accused of kidnapping Dylan's sister, Shasta, refused to cooperate with authorities.

The children disappeared six weeks ago after their mother, their older brother and a family friend were discovered beaten to death in their home near Coeur d'Alene, Idaho.

Shasta was found early Saturday eating breakfast with Duncan in a Denny's restaurant in Coeur d'Alene.

Police said initial information led them to believe that Dylan is dead.

"I'd be more than happy to stand up here and say it was the biggest mistake we ever made, but unfortunately I don't think we're going to have to do that," said Capt. Ben Wolfinger of the Kootenai County Sheriff's Department.

Duncan has been charged with the girl's kidnapping, and prosecutors will probably file more charges this week, he said.

Bombing Conspirator Nichols

Revealing Role, Mother Says

OKLAHOMA CITY -- Bombing conspirator Terry L. Nichols has been meeting with the FBI and has revealed additional details about his involvement in the 1995 attack that destroyed the Oklahoma City federal building, his mother said Sunday.

Nichols, serving life in prison for the bombing, which killed 168 people, said that he helped Timothy J. McVeigh acquire the ammonium nitrate fertilizer and racing fuel that were combined to make the explosive and that he helped assemble the bomb components, said Joyce Wilt of Lapeer, Mich.

"That's the extent of it," she told the Associated Press. "From there on, he had no knowledge." Wilt says her son has Asperger's syndrome, a form of autism that allowed him to be easily manipulated.
