Iraq War Deaths

Total number of U.S. military deaths and names of the U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war as announced by the Pentagon recently:











Spec. Rafael A. Carillo Jr., 21, of Boys Ranch, Tex.; 1st Battalion, 64th Armor Regiment, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart, Ga. Killed June 28 in Baghdad.

Sgt. Chad M. Mercer, 25, of Waycross, Ga.; Army National Guard 2nd Battalion, 121st Infantry Regiment, based in Fitzgerald, Ga. Killed June 30 in Baghdad.

Sgt. Manny Hornedo, 27, of Brooklyn, N.Y.; Army National Guard 1569th Transportation Company, based in New York. Killed June 28 in Tikrit.

Staff Sgt. Jeremy A. Brown, 26, of Mabscott, W.Va.; 66th Military Intelligence Company, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, based at Fort Carson, Colo. Died July 3 in Mosul of injuries received in Tall Afar.

Spec. Ryan J. Montgomery, 22, of Greensburg, Ky.; Army National Guard 1st Battalion, 623rd Field Artillery Regiment, based at Campbellsville, Ky. Killed July 3 in Baghdad.

All troops were killed in action unless otherwise indicated.

Total fatalities include five civilian employees of the Defense Department.
