Iraq War Deaths
Total number of U.S. military deaths and names of the U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war as announced by the Pentagon yesterday:
Spec. Ernest W. Dallas Jr., 21, of Denton, Tex.
Staff Sgt. Jason W. Montefering, 27, of Parkston, S.D.
Sgt. Milton M. Monzon Jr., 21, of Los Angeles.
Pfc. Ramon A. Villatoro Jr., 19, of Bakersfield, Calif.
The four soldiers were assigned to 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, based at Fort Carson, Colo. They were killed July 24 in Baghdad.
Pfc. Jason D. Scheuerman, 20, of Lynchburg, Va.; 1st Battalion, 30th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Benning, Ga. Killed July 30 in Muqdadiyah.
Pfc. Robert A. Swaney, 21, of West Jefferson, Ohio; 3rd Squadron, 3rd Armored Cavalry Regiment, based at Fort Carson, Colo. Killed July 30 in Baghdad.
Spec. James D. Carroll, 23, of McKenzie, Tenn.; Army National Guard's 230th Engineer Battalion, based in McKenzie. Killed July 31 near Baghdad.
All troops were killed in action unless otherwise indicated.
Total fatalities include five civilian employees of the Defense Department.
