Iraq War Deaths
Total number of U.S. military deaths and names of the U.S. troops killed in the Iraq war as announced by the Pentagon yesterday:
Sgt. Monta S. Ruth, 26, of Winston-Salem, N.C. 1st Battalion, 15th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Benning, Ga. Killed Aug. 31 in Samarra.
Capt. Lowell T. Miller II, 35, of Flint, Mich. Army National Guard 1st Battalion, 155th Infantry Regiment, based at McComb, Miss. Killed Aug. 31 in Iskandariyah.
Sgt. George R. Draughn Jr., 29, of Decatur, Ga.
Staff Sgt. Robert L. Hollar Jr., 35, of Griffin, Ga.
Both soldiers were assigned to the Army National Guard 108th Cavalry Regiment, 48th Infantry Brigade, based at Griffin, Ga. They were killed Sept. 1 in Baghdad.
Sgt. 1st Class Lonnie J. Parson, 39, of Norcross, Ga. 3rd Squadron, 7th Cavalry Regiment, 2nd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division, based at Fort Stewart, Ga. Killed Sept. 2 in Baghdad.
All troops were killed in action unless otherwise indicated.
Total fatalities include five civilian employees of the Defense Department.
