What might have been a routine, rectangular-shaped second home has been designed and angled to embrace the natural contours of a hillside.

An outdoor deck, which surrounds the three bedroom home, connects with a garage and a bridge over a garden moat. The deck is supported by pillings that extend to just above a protective balustrade. A staircase leads from the deck to a rear garden below.

At its widest point, the deck extends slightly more than 16 feet from the outside wall of the family room. This outdoor living area is made even more functional by means of gliding glass doors, which lead from the dining room, family room and master bedroom.

The family room is located in the middle of the house at the rear. Bedrooms are clustered at one end of the house. At the other end are a kitchen and a living room and dining area, which span the width of the house. A fireplace with an oversized hearth serves as the focal point in the living room and dining area.

The master bedroom has a private bath and walk-in closet. Another full bath and a separate laundry room with overhead cabinets and storage closet separate two other bedrooms.

Besides directing the flow of traffic on the main floor, the entry connects with a staircase leading to a lower level basement.

In addition to a large recreation room, which matches the size of the living room above and includes a second fireplace, there is another full bath. Optional bedrooms can be created in a variety of sizes and shapes. Gliding glass doors and picture windows built into the rear wall of the lower floor overlook a covered patio and garden.

The potential for building a lower level promises a doubling of the 1,660 square feet of living area in the home. This can be accomplished without increasing the roof area or the perimeter of the wall construction.

Four copies of the plans, which meet the new Uniform Building Code and environmental conservation requirements are available for $105. A list of building materials costs an additional $10. Orders or inquiries should be addressed to Home Building Plan Service, 2235 NE Sandy Blvd., Portland, Ore. 97232.
