The Apartment and Office Building Association of Metropolitan Washington will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Capitol Hilton for a workshop on the new rent control legislation in the District. One of the speakers will be Bowles Ford, the city's rent administrator, who will explain how the new law will be implemented.

The Fairfax County Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on community development and housing needs at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday in the A-level board room of the Massey Building, 4100 Chain Bridge Rd., Fairfax.

Finding new uses for surplus schools will be the topic Thursday evening when the area chapter of the American Institute of Planners holds a panel discussion at the Parkside Elementary School in Silver Spring.
