Joseph G. Anastasi, former Maryland Secretary of Economic and Community Development has been appointed vice president of Coloquitt-Carruthers, Inc., a real estate firm. He will specialize in commercial and investment properties, builder services, property management and corporate relocation, the firm said.
A political associate of former governor Marvin Mandel, Anastasi held the cabinet level post from 1973 until 1977. During that time he established the Maryland Housing Fund, and directed low- and moderate-income housing and finance programs. Before taking office, he was vice president of Montgomery Realty Co.
Anastasi said in an interview that the recent conviction of Colquitt-Carruthers, and its president J. Thomas Carruthers Jr., for conspiring to fix real estate commission prices was not a consideration in his decision to take the job.
Although his name has been linked politically with Ted Venetoulis, a candidate for governor of Maryland, Anastasi said he has not talked with him about a campaign.
