Local builder groups affiliated with the National Association of Home Builders have awarded 25 prizes for houses in the annual "finest for family living" contest. There were 100 entries.
The awards were based on design and construction, energy conservation, amenities and other aspects.
Single-family house prices under $75,000: Hylton Enterprises Inc., for a house in the Lindendale section of Dale City in Prince William County.
Single houses priced from $75,000 to $90,000: Miller & Smith Inc., for a house in Hidden Brook near Herndon. An award of merit was given to Kettler Brothers Inc., for a house in Promotory Oaks in Lake Ridge, Va.
Single houses from $90,000 to $110,000: Poretsky & Starr, for a house in the Indian Wells section of Newbridge near Largo. An award of merit was made to Pulte Home Corp. for a house in Fox Glen in the Chantilly area.
Single houses priced from $110,000 to $135,000: Triangle Development Co. of America, for a house in Westwood Forest near Vienna. An award of merit went to Pulte for a Fox Vale Farmhouse in the Great Falls area.
Single houses costing $135,000 or more: James R. Corbitt Co., for a model in Haver Hill in the Great Falls area. An award of merit went to Berger-Berman Builders Inc. for a house in Potomac Springs in West Rockville.
Town houses priced under $55,000: Stanley Martin Communities Inc., for a model at West End in the Herndon area. An award of merit went to Pulte Homes for a house in Carroll Park Manor near Frederick, Md.
Town houses priced from $55,000 to $70,000: KRB Inc., for a model at Village at Woodstream in the Seabrook area.
Town houses priced from $70,000 to $90,000: MCH Corp./Camelot Builders, for a model at Orange Hunt Square, Springfield. Awards of merit went to Wm. L. Berry Co. Inc., for a house in Brayberry Woods in Burke Centre and to Kettler Brothers for a model in Dorseys Regard in Montgomery. Village.
Town houses priced at $90,000 and above: Madison-McLean Associates, for a house at Madison of McLean. Awards of merit went to Concord Homes for a Sutton Oaks model in the Vienna area, A. G. Van Metre Associates Inc., for Forest Hills in south Arlington and Horning Brothers for Michigan Park North in Northeast Washington.
Custom houses priced from $150,000 to $250,000: C. W. Sampson Builder Inc., for a house in McLean.
Custom houses $250,000 and over: West Homes Inc., for a Williamburg-styled house near Vienna. An award of merit went to Crowell & Baker for a house in Potomac.
Substantial renovations recognized with awards of merit included Kenwood Forest Associates foa a project in Chevy Chase and Landmark Companies for the Woodbine condominium conversion at 3616 Connecticut Ave. NW.
Cited for energy-saving features in their houses were Hylton Enterprises Inc., Miller & Smith Inc., Mitchell & Best, Par Construction Inc., and Poretsky & Starr. CAPTION: Picture, Madison of McLean house was winner among town houses over $90,000.
