Sales in Northern Virginia of single-family homes declined 22 percent in 1981 from their 1980 levels, according to the Northern Virginia Board of Realtors. The year-end total number of sales was 15,155, compared with 19,527 the year before.

Prices increased by 11 percent from December 1980 to December 1981, from $88,264 to $98,399, the Realtors group reported.

Sales figures for December showed a 35 percent decline from the year-earlier period, from 1,035 in 1980 to 669 in 1981. The December figure also was a slight drop from November when there were 759 sales.
